Affordable designer basics - not just for grown ups..!
Don't you love it when young children mis-pronounce things and those words and phrases become part of your family vocabulary for evermore? As a toddler, our daughter dubbed my favourite retail destination "Team-mate Max" - making our shopping trips feel more like a catch up with old friends 🛍️🤗.
Time flies, but TK Maxx is still our first stop for great quality kid's staples at affordable prices. This week, I was on the lookout for a couple of pairs of "cool" but teen-appropriate jeans / leggings, plus a matching top that could be worn with the fabulous Carvela "Jamm" slip-on's that our daughter recently bought with her Christmas gift money (more details below).
Now, much as I love TK Maxx, there isn't always a huge range of teen-clothing available in store (which is why their website can be a useful resource if you are looking for a specific size). Nonetheless, I struck lucky and found a pair of stylish, pale pink DKNY jeans, some floral "Abercrombie Kids" warm, cotton leggings and a fab cream and silver starry top by a new make (to me) called "Key Largo Girls".
The 3 items should retail at approx. £100 on the high Street, but were a snip at TK Maxx costing just £24.99 in total (the best deal being the lovely jeans, RRP of £63, but red-label discounted to just £9). Proof indeed that you can kit out your darling offspring in good quality, designer names for the cost of shopping in the supermarket clothes' aisle!
Now for a funny story and a lesson learned: Thinking I was getting a bargain, I bought our daughter a nearly identical pair of bejewelled, navy blue Carvela flats from Hooper's of Wilmslow during the Christmas holidays..she really loved them and said how comfy they were so I felt that they would be a good purchase despite feeling expensive at £59 (reduced from £79 in the sale). I was kicking myself the very next day when we found this matching silver-grey pair at TK Maxx in nearby Leigh (at a whopping £20 LESS than Hoopers' sale price) 😭 That will teach me!! Fortunately Christmas money came to the rescue and our daughter is now the proud owner of both pairs (my favourites are actually the TK Maxx pair on the right!)
Look forward to catching up again soon, I would love to hear your comments or if there is anything in particular you'd like me to seek out and feature from TK Maxx! Find your nearest store here or have a look online (no affiliation). Toodle Pip!

As mentioned above, I was looking for items to tone with another recent TK Maxx bargain - these sparkly Carvela crystal studded shoes (I would have bought myself a pair too if they had been a size bigger!) As you can see, they will go well with the DKNY jeans..
Can you spot the £20 difference? 😉 |
